Length: No overall length set; the permit will allow movement on routes on which the permittee can negotiate curves, interchanges, entrance and exit roadways and other obstacles.
Width: Movements on 2-lane highways will be limited to vehicles or loads 14' wide or less. Movements on multi-lane undivided highways are limited to vehicles or loads 32' wide or less. If a physical barrier strip separates the opposing lanes of traffic, the limit is 20' wide on multi-lane highways. Must be applied for in writing if over 16' wide.
Height: Application for permits to move loads over 16' high must be in writing and must demonstrate that the movement is necessary and in public interest. All loads over 14' high must be moved by permit, but the permit is to be governed by the clearance of overhead obstruction such as bridges, under passes, wires, overhead signs and other objects.

PERMITS VALID FOR:
Single trip permits where weight is involved are usually valid for one move; over dimensional only permits may be issued for a month or a year.
OPERATING TIME
One-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset as limited by the following schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday moves allowed all day, Friday moves are prohibited after 3:00 P.M. Nighttime Movements: A vehicle or vehicle combinations not exceeding the defined envelope of 12' wide, 14'6" high and 105' long including legal overhang may move at night. A vehicle or vehicle combination which exceeds the defined envelope may also be permitted to move at night on state highways subject to Department preferred hours/routes of travel and must have "Nighttime movement approved" stated on permits. All night moves must comply with published curfew restriction. Night means one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise. Vehicle and load must have proper lighting. Vehicles operation overweight with legal dimensions may operate 7 days a week, 24 hours a day provided they can maintain speed with surrounding traffic. Vehicles not exceeding 100' long, 10' wide and 14' high may operate at night with proper lighting as defined in Federal Regulations 49 CFR part 393.11
WEEKEND TRAVEL
Travel permitted Saturday all day, Sunday until 12:00 noon.
DIVISIBLE LOADS
The load must be dismantled or disassembled; if the load can be reduced, even if that would require the use of additional vehicles, no special permit will be issued; note: loads created by means of welding, bolting or tying will be construed to be reducible.
EXCEPTIONS
When a machine is such that its dismantling is virtually impossible, it may be allowed to move by permit if a strong case can be made that it must be moved.
INFORMATION NEEDED TO ORDER A WIDE LOAD, OVERSIZE AND HEAVY HAUL PERMIT
Information about the vehicle, the owner, load description, route to be traveled and the need for the move. Crated items must submit a letter from the shipping company describing the items, origin and destination, overall dimensions, gross weight. Letter must state why load cannot be moved legally.

Restricted Travel
Movement by special permit will be prohibited on urban sections of state highways in the vicinity of cities having a population of more than 15,000 and other sections of highway having excessive volumes during the morning and evening commuting hours. The Department will prescribe specific hours and regulations for oversize movements in and adjacent to Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane, Everett, Vancouver and other areas as deemed necessary. Movement of empty equipment trailers up to 10' wide may be allowed during such hours on a tip to pick up or from delivering over wide load commuter hours are from 6:30 - 8:30 A.M and 4:00 - 6:00 P.M.
Bridge Restrictions - the Department shall from time to time evaluate the capacity of all bridges on the state highway system to carry loads. Bridges that cannot safely carry vehicles moving without a permit shall be posted. Vehicles exceeding the posted load limit shall not cross the bridge.
Moves may not be made when visibility is reduced to less than 1,000' or under hazardous roadway conditions deemed unsafe by the Department of Transportation or the Washington State Patrol.
Movement by permit is prohibited where any of the following signs are displayed. Approved traction tires recommended, approved traction tires required, tire chains required or traction tires advised.
Mt. Rainier National Park - state highways within Mt. Rainier National Park are closed to vehicles whose gross weight exceeds 5,000 lbs. The park superintendent may allow heavier vehicles required to serve the needs of the park. SR410 from the east boundary of the park east to the American River Resort and sR123 from the south boundary of the park, south to its junction with SR12 have the same restrictions.

Overweight, Oversized & Wide Load Super Loads
An application for a special permit for a gross weight of any combination of vehicles exceeding 200,000 lbs shall be submitted in writing to the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) at least 30 days in advance. Loads exceeding 16' wide or 16' high shall be submitted 7 days in advance of move.
